I Made Your Clothes - Fashion Revolution Week
As The Fashion Revolution Week nears its end I wanted to post about why I started FLUXE. I studied digital media, fashion design and business at university, fashion school and tafe for five years on the Gold Coast pursuing the dreams I have always had. In my first year of fashion school one of my teachers showed us a documentary about fast fashion and its impacts called ‘The True Cost’. Shocked by what was exposed in the documentary I knew that I was going to shop smarter and if in the future I was going to start a label I was going to have an eco and ethical mindset.
Fast forward a year when I began working to build FLUXE I wanted to reject fast fashion and passionately embrace the ‘slow fashion movement’. I didn’t want my brand to have hundreds of new styles each year but have smaller thoughtful collections.
Every product is designed, pattern made, fitted, cut out, made by, packaged and shipped by me this is a one girl show. I never wanted to be a brand that was like so many other fast fashion brands who created poor quality cheap products that are so easily thrown away at the expense of the environment and garment workers. I wanted to be a brand that created ethical Australian made products, reduced waste and wasn’t motivated by money. I wanted to empower every woman who wore my brand by the fit, feel and quality.
When you buy from FLUXE know I’m a small business working in my parents spare bedroom with my dog at my feet trying to be greener than large retail businesses dominating the global market. I don’t drive a Ferrari, I don’t have designer bags, I don’t go on lavish holidays I’m a girl with a dream, a sketch pad and a sewing machine. I stay home and work, sew and design products that will make a woman feel empowered and confident even when she’s in her underwear. Be confident in your underwear.
